Pool Decks and Lanais in Fort Myers
Pool deck resurfacing is a big part of floor work in Fort Myers, where a screened pool and lanai are a standard feature of many homes. Pool decks take more abuse than almost any other concrete around a house. They bake in the sun, get soaked with chlorinated or salt water, collect leaves and pollen, and carry bare feet every day of the year. Over time the surface cracks, stains, fades and gets rough or slick. Resurfacing puts a new wearing layer over sound concrete, so you get a fresh, safer deck without tearing it out.
Heat and sun come first
Average daily temperatures in Fort Myers climb to about 83 F in August, and Wikipedia notes the city rarely sees freezing weather, so decks here face heat year round. Wikipedia's article on the Florida climate says heat indexes across the state can reach 103 F to 110 F. A dark, smooth coating on a sunny deck gets hot enough to make you hop. We steer toward light colors and textured finishes, and we use UV-stable topcoats on any coating that sees direct sun. HomeGuide describes cool-deck style surfaces as non-slip and says they help lower surface temperature, which is why they remain popular around Florida pools.
Surfaces we install
There is no single right answer for a pool deck. A textured cool-deck style surface is light, slip resistant and familiar. A decorative overlay can add color, patterns or a stone look. Stamped overlays copy pavers, slate or tile in a thin layer over existing concrete. On covered lanais, a flake or polyaspartic system gives a cleaner, more finished look that still grips. Where the concrete is in good shape and you just want to refresh it, sealing can be enough. We look at the deck and how you use it, then show you two or three that fit.
Patio and lanai coating
The lanai floor under a screen enclosure is part of the same project for most homeowners. Lanai floors see less direct sun than an open deck, but rain blows through the screen and wet feet track from the pool. A polyaspartic or flake system with added grit holds up well there and wipes clean. We can carry one surface through the lanai and onto the open deck or use different systems for each, matched in color.
Cracks, drainage and storm damage
Most resurfacing problems start below the surface. Cracks need to be routed and filled, loose or hollow areas found, and expansion joints kept working, or new cracks follow. Water must drain away from the house and the pool. In 2022, Hurricane Ian pushed a 10 to 15 foot surge into Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Bonita Springs, and many decks across the county sat in salt water and debris. A deck with storm history gets cleaned, checked for undermining and tested before we coat it. If pool or cage repairs need a permit, those come first.
Timing around weather and pool use
About two thirds of Fort Myers rain falls from June through September, often in short afternoon storms. Outdoor coatings need a dry surface and a dry few hours afterward, so we schedule summer deck work for mornings and keep an eye on the radar. Dry-season months are easier. We tell you when the deck can take foot traffic, furniture and splashing, and whether to keep the pool covered during the work.

Overlays pressed to look like pavers, slate or tile.

Planned around storms
Outdoor coats go down in dry windows, not between afternoon showers.
Pool Deck Resurfacing Questions
Can my pool deck be resurfaced instead of replaced?
Usually, if the concrete under it is sound. Loose, hollow or badly settled areas may need repair first. We check during the estimate.
Which pool deck surface stays coolest?
Light-colored, textured surfaces stay cooler than dark or smooth ones. HomeGuide notes that cool-deck style surfaces help lower surface temperature.
Is epoxy a good choice for an open pool deck?
Plain epoxy yellows in full sun. For open decks we prefer cool-deck style surfaces, overlays or UV-stable systems with grit, and keep epoxy for covered areas with a protective topcoat.
How long until we can swim again?
It depends on the surface and the weather. We give you a specific time after the work is done.
Do I need HOA approval to resurface a pool deck?
Many associations want to approve exterior color changes. Check with yours before you pick a color, and we will provide samples and product information.
