Two Category 4 Storms in Eighteen Years
Epoxy flooring in Punta Gorda is planned with storms in mind. Hurricane Charley hit the city as a Category 4 on August 13, 2004, the first direct hit on Florida's southwest coast since Donna in 1960. Hurricane Ian made a second landfall just south of the city on September 28, 2022. Many homes and garages here have been repaired, rebuilt or replaced at least once.
What rebuilding leaves behind
Rebuilt or patched slabs can mix old and new concrete, repair mortar and leftover adhesives. Before coating, we:
- Map the patches and check that they are sound and level.
- Grind everything to the same profile so the coating bonds evenly.
- Test moisture across the floor, not just in one corner.
- Choose a system that hides small color differences, often flake.
That way the finished floor looks like one surface, even if the slab under it is not.
Canal homes and boat gear
Punta Gorda Isles, started in 1959, has 55 miles of canals, 100 feet wide and 17 feet deep. Boats, tackle and dock gear often live in the garage. Salt-resistant topcoats and full flake systems are a good fit, with extra texture near the door for wet feet.
Retirement-friendly floors
Punta Gorda's median age was 67.6 in the 2020 census, with 56.8% of residents 65 or older. For many owners, a floor that is slip-resistant, easy to see and easy to clean is the priority. Light flake blends and a textured topcoat check those boxes.
Mostly 1970s to 2000s construction
The median Punta Gorda home dates to 1994, per ACS data from Point2Homes, and 81.7% of occupied homes are owned. Garages from the 1970s often need old paint removed. Newer ones usually need sealer ground off. The quote lays out the prep your floor needs.

Punta Gorda Questions
My Punta Gorda garage slab was patched after Charley. Will the coating look patchy?
We grind patches level and even out the surface profile first. A flake system hides most color differences between old and new concrete, so the finished floor reads as one surface.
Is a flake floor slippery for older adults?
Flake adds some texture on its own, and mixing grit into the final coat adds more traction. At the visit you can run a hand over sample boards of each option.
Do you coat lanais in Punta Gorda Isles?
Yes. Lanais need a UV-stable topcoat and lighter colors to stay cooler under bare feet. If there is an old painted or cool-deck finish, we check its bond before deciding whether to remove it.
Can you schedule the work before I leave for the summer?
Yes. Spring is a popular time. Let us know your departure date and we will plan the work and cure time around it.
