Metallic Floors for Fort Myers Interiors
Metallic epoxy is a decorative pour. We mix metallic pigments into a clear epoxy, pour it over a base coat and work it by hand so the pigments flow into swirls, ripples and cloudy patterns. No two metallic epoxy floors look the same. In Fort Myers, we install them mostly inside: living rooms, kitchens, home bars, game rooms, home gyms and the occasional retail floor. It is also the system people ask about when they want a whole house on coated concrete instead of tile.
Whole-house floors
One of the gaps we see in local searches is interior epoxy for a whole home. Homeowners in Fort Myers Facebook groups ask about it regularly, but few pages explain it. The short version: it is possible, it looks striking, and it is more work than a garage. Tile, thinset, carpet glue and wood flooring all have to come up first. We grind the slab clean, fill cracks and the old tack strip holes, and then build the floor in layers. Because every room is open to the next, we plan the pour so seams fall at doorways or other natural breaks.
Keep it out of the sun
Metallic epoxy has the same weakness as any epoxy: sunlight. In HomeGuide's ratings, epoxy scores only poor to fair against UV. A metallic floor in a sunroom or under a sliding glass door will yellow over time where the light lands. We seal metallic floors with a clear UV-resistant topcoat, but we still recommend them for rooms where sun is limited, and if a room gets too much light for metallic, we will say so. For lanais and garages that face the sun, a flake or polyaspartic system is the better choice.
Moisture under interior slabs
An interior slab is still a slab on grade. In Fort Myers, with about two thirds of the yearly rain falling from June through September, vapor coming up through concrete is common, and it can cloud or lift a metallic pour. It is also hidden. Tile and carpet keep you from seeing it. Testing happens once the old flooring is pulled, and when the numbers come back high, a moisture-blocking primer goes on before any metallic layer.
Condos and older homes
Point2Homes' census survey summary shows that roughly half of Fort Myers housing is in multi-unit buildings (two units or more). Condo owners who want metallic floors should check with their association first, since many have rules on hard flooring, sound underlayment or work hours. In older homes, such as those from the 1950s through the 1980s, slabs often have more cracks and patched areas. Metallic epoxy shows what is underneath more than flake does, so we spend more time on repairs and can work the pattern to blend them.
Colors and finish
Most metallic floors use two or three pigments: a base color and one or two accents. Grays with silver, charcoals with copper, and whites with pearl are common choices in bright Florida homes. We can finish the topcoat at high gloss for depth or satin to hide footprints. We bring samples and photos of real pigment combinations to the estimate.
Cost
Per This Old House, metallic epoxy runs $5 to $12 per square foot, with high-grade coatings adding 20% to 30%. Interior work often includes flooring removal and more repairs, so your written quote will spell those out. Get a free estimate

Metallic Epoxy Questions
Could metallic epoxy run through an entire house?
Yes. Old flooring has to come up and the slab must be ground and tested. We plan the pour room by room so breaks fall at doorways.
Does metallic epoxy scratch?
Any glossy floor shows fine scratches over time. A tough topcoat, felt pads under furniture and a satin finish all help.
Does metallic epoxy work in a garage?
It can, but sun and hot tires are hard on it. For most garages here we suggest flake with a polyaspartic topcoat instead.
Is it possible to lay metallic epoxy over tile?
We do not recommend it. Grout lines show through and the bond to glazed tile is weak. We remove the tile and grind the concrete.
